    According to SLN analysis of the NYC schools for SY 2010 – 2011, SLN Schools are showing improved testing and performance over non-SLN peer schools. The analysis based on the 2011 New York City Progress Report, compared SLN Schools and their peer non-SLN Schools.  Some of the key achievements are:

    SLN Principal, Dr. Cordell Jones, of Woodridge Elementary School, Alamo Heights ISD in San Antonio, TX was named Regional Principal of the Year for the San Antonio area by H-E-B.  Dr. Jones is one of five recipients of this award for 2012.  H-E-B awards wonderful honors to the best teachers and school leaders in Texas each year.

    School Leaders Network is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant of $250,000 from MetLife Foundation to sustain and expand SLN Networks in its existing geographical clusters. The grant also includes support to encourage and enable SLN’s collaborative work with New Leaders for New Schools and its EPIC tools in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

    This grant has also played an important role in SLN opening its first two Networks in the Bay area and its first Network in Los Angeles.

    SLN released a report on the analysis of test scores from the end of the 2009─ 2010 school year for Networks in Massachusetts, New York City and Rochester, New York and San Antonio, Texas. The analysis compared student achievement data for SLN-led schools to non-SLN schools and included a breakdown of the data for SLN Principals who have participated in multiple years of SLN Programming.

    School Leaders Network is pleased to announce a gift of $45,000 from the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation to fund the expansion of SLN's presence in Hawaii. This gift, in collaboration with funding from the Kamehameha Schools, enabled SLN to open one more network this year in Oahu, providing more principals there with development and support critical for success.

We are proud to have the first two networks operating in the region beginning this month and look forward to widening SLN's impact in L.A. going forward.

    Elizabeth Neale, Founder and CEO of School Leaders Network announced the receipt of a gift from The Booth Ferris Foundation for school years 10-11 and 11-12. This gift makes it possible to realize SLN’s strategic goal of establishing a Regional Program Director to oversee the five SLN Networks in New York City. These networks, comprised of K-12 public school principals across the boroughs, were established in 2006.

    SLN is pleased to announce new partnerships with Raise Your Hand Texas and the W.L.S. Spencer Foundation, and the receipt of grants from both organizations.
     
    Raise Your Hand Texas (RYHT) funding will help expand SLN’s presence in San Antonio where there are now five networks serving over 80 principals. The grant will make it possible for more principals in San Antonio, specifically in the SAISD, to participate in SLN Networks for the SY 2010-2011.

    NYC Principal and SLN Member Chris Ogno, is featured on ABC TV for his school’s unique program which inspires college-ready elementary school students. The program, developed in concert with school parents, connects all of his elementary school students at PS247 in Brooklyn to local colleges. Chris is a member of Ada Dolch's NYC cohort.

    The Meadows Foundation has awarded Trinity University $281,000 for the first year of a three-year project to maintain the Trinity Principals’ Center (TPC), to support the continuation of the work SLN is presently doing in Texas and to expand SLN's presence there for the 2010-11 school year.

    Frances McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer at Education Pioneers, a seasoned leader in the education sector, has joined SLN’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining Education Pioneers in 2009, Ms. McLaughlin was a Senior Director at the Broad Foundation, a Los Angeles-based venture philanthropy. There she was responsible for the foundation's investments in organizations which build leadership capacity in public education.

    Analysis of the NYC Progress Report for the school year 08-09, issued in December 2009, shows that SLN-led schools made bigger gains in student achievement and school environment than peer schools led by principals not participating in SLN programming. Highlights of the report include:

    SLN-led high schools had a Math Regents pass rate of 85%, an increase of 25 percentage points from 2007-08.

    November 24, 2009—<Hinsdale, Massachusetts>—School Leaders Network (SLN) has announced a grant from MetLife Foundation to facilitate professional development for school principals. The funds will help SLN sustain and expand its model of local clusters of principals and provide strategic training and technical support for its network of expert facilitators.

    School Leaders Network now has four videos up on the popular video site, YouTube. In these videos, SLN members talk about the need for professional leadership development for school leaders and what it is like to be a member of a network. They also share some of the things that they learned in their networks and have taken back to their schools. Members reflect on the difference they are making with their teachers and students as a result of being members of SLN.

    The Houston based advocacy group Children at Risk ranked San Antonio area schools on factors like test scores, class size, etc. and three of the top ten ranked schools in the elementary category are led by SLN Facilitators.

    Terry Chidgey's school, Stone Oak Elementary, Karen Bessett's school, Randolph Elementary and Cordell Jones' school, Woodridge Elementary. In addition, Sharon Newman, an SLN member, who is now assisting with the new San Antonio network, has the honor of having her school, Hardy Oaks Elementary, included in the top ten list.

    An analysis of the New York City School Progress Report, released in June, comparing 2006-07 school scores to scores achieved in 2007-08 showed correlations in school performance improvements with program participation in just one year’s time.

    The School Leaders Network has entered into a partnership with New Leaders for New Schools DC, a non-profit organization which trains school leaders to take the helm of challenging urban schools across the nation, to form three networks for principals in the Washington, DC area beginning fall 2009.

    In support of the important and effective work of the School Leaders Network, the School Administrators Association of New York State {SAANYS} was pleased to present to the network’s Albany facilitator, Dr. Rachelle Salerno, a matching grant in support of current and future initiatives.
