May 26, 2015

Hinsdale, Massachusetts, (May 19, 2015) – School Leaders Network is pleased to announce that educational leaders and advocates Jean-Claude Brizard, Dr. Kendra Washington-Bass and Jocelyn Rosenwald have joined the organization’s Board of Directors.

Jean-Claude Brizard is currently President of UpSpring Education Group and was formerly CEO of Chicago Public Schools and superintendent of the Rochester, NY School District. Under Mr. Brizard’s leadership, both districts saw substantial improvements in student performance. His experience includes a 21-year career as an educator and administrator with the NYC Department of Education.

“I’m delighted to have been invited to join the Board of School Leaders Network, I’ve been following them for many years. I only wish I’d had the benefit of their program when I was a school leader,” says Mr Brizard. “Their model of leadership development based on professional learning communities gives school leaders, who are often isolated in their buildings, the opportunity to support and learn from each other as they focus on problems of practice and work to improve teaching and learning in their schools.”

Kendra Washington-Bass is currently Director of the Quality-Plus Leadership Academy at Gwinnett County Public Schools where she works in conjunction with Leadership Development and Human Resources to assist aspiring principals and assistant principals in becoming “Quality-Plus” leaders in the district. A native New Yorker, and 1994 Teach for America corps member, she began her teaching career in the South Bronx. In 2003, after 9 years of teaching elementary and middle school, Dr. Washington-Bass, along two other educators, designed and opened the hugely successful Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy III, an Ivy League middle school in the Bronx.

Jocelyn Rosenwald also began her teaching career in New York City as first grade and kindergarten teacher in the South Bronx and Washington Heights. She went on to help establish the KIPP Star Elementary School through the Knowledge is Power Program. Ms Rosenwald is currently an Asset Management and Acquisitions Analyst at Beach Front Property Management in California where she is responsible for locating and executing new investment opportunities. She has substantial management training and holds a degree from University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Education from Hunter College, NY.

We are extremely excited to have such strong education leaders and advocates join our Board of Directors,’ states Elizabeth Neale, ‘School Leaders Network, founder and CEO. “Their expertise and experience, especially as leaders in the country’s largest school districts, will be invaluable to the organization as we embark on our next stage of growth.”
